Nov. 5, 2006 — Promises, promises

TELESIDE, USA — The advent of all-sports channels promised a diversity of content, especially when networks of college sports started broadcasting in 2004.

But today, the final day of conference tournaments in NCAA Division I play, there was not a single live national broadcast of any field hockey conference tournament championship game, even with three networks solely dedicated to college sports.

Instead, there has been a hodgepodge of tape-delayed broadcasts. Today, for example, the ACC final was shown at 5:30 p.m. on just two Fox Sports Net affiliates: Comcast Sports South and the New England Sports Network.

So, as a public service, we’re going to give you a schedule of upcoming television broadcasts that you can get on your digital satellite:

Tuesday, Nov. 7: Big Ten Final, 5:30 p.m., College Sports Television (repeated at midnight and noon Nov. 8th)

Thursday, Nov. 9: ACC Final, 1 p.m., Comcast Sports Net Washington

Sunday, Nov. 19: NCAA Final, Noon, College Sports Television

Happy watching! And, of course, recording. With the proliferation of digital video recorders, editors, and players, coaches and players can learn valuable lessons.
