Feb. 2, 2007 — Cometh the vidcam, cometh the vodcast

The package was eight weeks in coming after my initial shipment of the recalled model to the fulfillment company.

But hopefully, the stories to be captured by this new digital video camera will be worth the wait. Ever since this website started mixing podcasts two years ago, I knew it would be a matter of time until digital video players would be introduced that would signal the start of vodcasting: the creation of a digital movie for broadcast over the Internet or for download to personal players.

One of the first players I saw was about the size of a box of holiday cards, with a hard drive inside and a screen on the top. A friend of mine who studies vintage film of musicals for dance techniques showed me the device, and I was amazed.

Since then, the leaps in technology have been phenomenal. On subways and trains, I have seen video on laptop computers, mobile phones, video games such as the Sony PlayStation Portable, and compact DVD players.

It also hasn’t escaped my notice that the original photo iPod was supplanted by the video iPod only five months after its introduction.

And soon, this website will have for you stories you can download into your fifth-generation iPod or you can see them on YouTube.
