July 2, 2007 — Hero worship
When was the last time the jersey of the U.S. field hockey team has been marketed?
Yep, it’s been a while. It was getting to the point when not even the leading field hockey equipment manufacturers would make available anything resembling the U.S. uniform.
That is scheduled to change as early as this year, as we have heard that the USA Field Hockey website will have “hero” T-shirts with names and numbers of U.S. players on the back.
These were seen scattered throughout the National Training Center last week starting the day after the Futures banquet, worn by scattered players and coaches. These are plain white cotton T-shirts with the U.S. logo, and the names and numbers on the back had the same “Machine” typeface that is found in the back of the U.S. jerseys.
Given the fact you haven’t been able to purchase a genuine U.S. jersey since the days of the Lanzera uniform top in the 1990s, this is a good step.
