We’re less than a month from the original deadline set by USA Field Hockey to the City of Virginia Beach to upgrade the National Training Center, or else the national governing body would simply walk away from the $3.5 million Landstown Road facility.
Last month, the Seattle SuperSonics of the NBA announced its intention to walk away from the $75 million KeyArena and move to Oklahoma City this fall.
Today, there was a story about how the Washington Nationals’ ownership owes back rent to Washington, D.C. for use of a $611 million baseball stadium. This is, literally, a billion-dollar boondoggle, since the team was bought for around $400 million.
Would the Nationals walk away? You wonder, in this climate.
In response to the item on this blog regarding the time frame for upgrades to the National Training Center in Virginia Beach, Sheila M. Walker, Executive Director – USA Field Hockey and Cindy Curtis, Director of the Virginia Beach Department of Parks and Recreation both indicted that although the goal is the development of additional desired amenities to support the team, there had been no deadline set for the upgrades.
