Aug. 17, 2008 — Matchday 5 preview: USA vs. England

Time of match: 6 a.m. Monday

Coverage: NBCOlympics.com (live and on-demand), USA Network

Key matchups: Crista Cullen (corner specialist, Great Britain) vs. Kate Barber (poster, United States); Laura Bartlett (midfielder, Great Britain) vs. Dana Sensenig (attacking midfielder, United States)

The skinny: One thing to keep in mind is England’s experience — and not necessarily in terms of age. Look at the two Olympic rosters, then think back to the 2001 Junior World Cup. Only two U.S. players — Dina Rizzo and Amy Tran — were on that team. For Great Britain, six members of their JWC team are currently Olympians. That included Jennie Bimson, who had to withdraw from the team with a torn calf muscle in mid-tournament, replaced by Laura Bartlett.

Both teams are hoping that New Zealand beats Argentina in the game following this one and both want to be in prime position to take that second slot in Pool B. This one will go all the way to the final horn.

Prediction: USA 3, England 2
