Feb. 26, 2011 — Maryland 18, Duke 11

POSTGAME In a matchup of U.S. World Cup teammates, Maryland’s Karri Ellen Johnson left her stamp on the game with five goals, but Sarah Bullard of Duke was not well-served by her offense this afternoon. The Blue Devils, seemingly unable to shake Bullard free, resorted to individual moves in their offensive sets and the Maryland defense of Iliana Sanza, Brittany Poist, Katie Gallagher, and Sara Cooper did a fine job in front of Dipper

PREGAME Maryland is in the white tops with red kilts, Duke is in all black

PREGAME Impressive crowd for a February game; looks like it tops a thousand. Amazing support here for the women’s game.

PREGAME The key to this game is draw controls. Can Duke match up well against Karri Ellen Johnson at center? Watch also for the Duke back four. Their collective effort will determine if the Blue Devils can remain close in the second half.

PREGAME But then again, you never know what you’re going to get when these teams get together. On more than one occasion in recent years, these two teams combined for nearly 40 goals.

PREGAME The coaches in this game, Cathy Reese and Kerstin Kimel, are from the Cindy Timchal coaching tree — Reese from the offensive side and Kimel from the defensive side.

PREGAME Both teams are 3-0 on the season thus far and are looking for advantage in the run towards the ACC Tournament.

PREGAME Hello and welcome to the Lacrosse & Field Hockey Complex at the University of Maryland, where the defending national champs take on ACC rival Duke.
