March 29, 2011 — The start of a real test
Today’s Game of the Day
Annapolis (Md.) at Severna Park (Md.)
One of the historically great rivalries in the sport has tilted heavily in Severna Park’s favor the last few years, but the Falcons need to guard against a letdown after a big victory to open the season against Edgewater South River (Md.).
Today, the College of New Jersey women’s lacrosse team embarks on a six-game stretch away from Lions’ Stadium.
The Lions are 8-0 on the season, have reached the 20-goal mark on three occasions this season, and are conceding an average of 2.25 goals a game.
But this six-game span, which begins today at Eastern University and ends April 19th with a home game against Manhattanville, will define TCNJ’s season.
That’s because three legitimate Final Four contenders — Gettysburg, Salisbury, and Franklin & Marshall — are on this road trip.
Wins over all three will solidify the team’s resume for the NCAA Division III tournament selection committee, given the fact that all three are in the Top 10. But the game to watch in this stretch is the April 10th game at Salisbury. The Gulls suffered a loss to Franklin & Marshall over the weekend, and this match could very well determine the No. 1 overall seed in the Division III championship.
Oh, sure, there’s all to do for TCNJ afterwards, including the season-ending match with a rapidly improving Stevens Institute of Technology team that is all the way up to No. 9 in last week’s IWLCA poll.
But these six games will likely have ramifications all over the Division III bracket.
