Jan. 31, 2012 — The 1 percent of women’s basketball
This year, there are 342 NCAA Division I women’s basketball teams.
For the last few years, any lout on a radio station could say that either Connecticut or Tennessee would win the national championship and be right.
Not much has changed. Monday, I watched the No. 3 Huskies go into what should have been a hostile environment at Duke University. UConn, even without the superstar athletes of the recent past such as Tina Charles and Maya Moore, throttled the No. 5 Blue Devils by 16 points.
It would appear that the gulf in class between the top of women’s college basketball and the rest of the field is still in place.
