Today, the American domestic girls’ scholastic lacrosse season starts its closure with a doubleheader in Pennsylvania, a doubleheader in Maine, one of two state finals in Vermont, and the state championship final in Minnesota.
Each of these games has its own storyline and will have their individual heroines over the course of the day. But let’s give you a couple of games to keep an eye on.
In Pennsylvania, one really interesting contest features Tredyffrin Conestoga (Pa.) against Radnor (Pa.). Both have been tremendous in their state championship history, with Radnor winning the PIAA championship four times and Conestoga twice since the state started awarding titles in 2009.
Indeed, these two sides met for the state final against each other in 2016, with Conestoga winning 18-7. Today’s final should be a lot closer.
I think you also have to take a long look at the Minnesota state final between Lakeville (Minn.) South and Savage Prior Lake (Minn.). Before St. Louis Park Benilda-St. Margaret’s (Pa.) won last year’s title, Lakeville and Prior Lake had shared the three championships on offer between 2019 and 2022.
Prior Lake, in the semifinal round two days ago, beat Benilda-St. Margaret’s in an 11-10 thriller. For its part, Lakeville South upended Oak Park Heights Stillwater (Minn.) 17-8.
Another reason to pay attention is the fact that Division I coaches are recruiting heavily in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. The lacrosse being played there is of high quality, and good players are now making impacts at the next level.
