Jan. 5, 2007 — Last of the 2006 awards

This site, after a month’s deliberation, has selected the 2006 United States Coach of the Year.

Now, this year saw coaches who have had undefeated seasons, others whose teams have scored insane amounts of goals, others who have been burdened with expectations, and others who have had victories of historic significance.

But the United States Coach of the Year for 2006 was able to show her team that field hockey isn’t something just to be dabbled in for 10 weeks in the autumn, and she and her team learned significant lessons about hard work, enthusiasm, and diversity over the last five years.

Our United States Coach of the Year is Barb Dwyer of Ladue Horton Watkins (Mo.).
