Sept. 28, 2011 — A needed service

Today’s Game of the Day
Virginia Beach Frank W. Cox (Va.) at Virginia Beach First Colonial (Va.)
Two seasons after being the finest team in all the land, Cox has found 2011 tough sledding, losing it’s opener to Yorktown Tabb (Va.) First Colonial is looking to stamp itself as the top Beach District team.

Ever before, and since, the April 15th announcement mandating eyewear in scholastic field hockey, there have been questions about the science and medical evidence behind the move.

In a pretty aggressive response, a U.S. Field Hockey study committee is collecting data through a website called Goggle Injury.

The survey, which appears to be made with the trusted SurveyGizmo datagathering engine, aims to collect data on head injuries caused by eyewear.

Over the first five weeks of the domestic season, your Founder has read numerous reports of injuries from eyewear, but there hasn’t been a central data repository until now.

You wonder whether the eyewear rule would have been adopted had there been a similar reporting mechanism for eye injuries.
