June 14, 2013 — A legacy begins

This afternoon in Worcester, state titles were awarded for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association for girls’ lacrosse teams. In the Division 1 title match, Hingham Notre Dame (Mass.) beat Longmeadow (Mass.) 13-10.

And in that win, the championship title stays in the Frank family. The head coach of NDA is former Northwestern star Meredith Frank, whose mother Leslie coaches at Westwood (Mass.), which has won the last two Division I titles.

The 2013 season was a breakthrough for Notre Dame. One year ago, the Cougars lost to Westwood 18-8 in the state tournament. But a 7-4 loss to the same team in a regular-season game showed that the team had the skill and fight to be able to compete.

And earlier this week, in the Division I South final, Notre Dame beat Westwood 10-7.

“This is a huge stepping stone,” Meredith Frank told The Quincy Patriot-Ledger. “Coming from the Westwood program myself, I know in my own coaching I take so much from my mom’s program, and they continue to push us to do better. I couldn’t be prouder of my team; this is a huge milestone for the school.”

And with the win, the Kelly Amonte-Hiller coaching tree bears more lacrosse success.
