Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

Feb. 9, 2015 — Ed Sabol, 1916-2015

It was an investment of $3,000 that Ed Sabol parlayed into a film and media empire that has taken over an enormous warehouse over the river from Philadelphia in the town of Mount Laurel, N.J.

Sabol, who died today, was the man who started this film company which now records ever NFL game, whether in Green Bay, or San Diego, or even in London. The company has also created highlights packages and mini-documentaries which have been shown on local television, on ESPN, and currently on the NFL Network.

NFL Films has also gotten into other lines of work. The company made a documentary about Howard Cosell, created mini-documentaries about various people in football and in life for NFL Films Presents, and even put in a bid for a documentary on the 1994 FIFA World Cup. It was a bid that was rejected.

Too bad, really. Imagine soaring music being played as Roberto Baggio stepped to the penalty spot that afternoon as he took his kick against Brazil’s Claudio Taffarel to try to keep Italy in the post-overtime shootout at the Rose Bowl.

That would have been something.
