Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

BULLETIN: June 3, 2015 — The fearless Royals pull an upset

There are six players on the 2015 Summit Oak Knoll (N.J.) girls’ lacrosse team who played last fall on the field hockey team that took 16-time state champion Voorhees Eastern (N.J.) to within an inch of its life in last fall’s Tournament of Champions final.

Compared to Eastern, what kind of fear could a foe such as three-time defending girls’ lacrosse Tournament of Champions winner Moorestown (N.J.) pose?

Any fears the Royals may have had were dispelled with a dominating first half and an early second-half surge that sufficed for a 13-10 win. The win sends Oak Knoll into the T of C final against town rival Summit (N.J.)., who upset Ridgewood (N.J.) 6-5 in the other T of C semifinal.

What was remarkable about the Oak Knoll win was its comprehensiveness, especially for most of the second half. Oak Knoll was able to open up a 13-5 lead before conceding five goals in the final six minutes of play. Ali Baiocco, who plays tennis in the fall for the school, led her side with five goals. Cassie Ford, who plays soccer in the fall for Oak Knoll, chipped in with four goals.
