Oct. 16, 2015 — Friday Statwatch for games played through Oct. 14

Good morning, and welcome to Statwatch, where we take our weekly journey into the names and the numbers that define the sport nationwide.

This week the most statistically significant event is the onward march of ninth-grader Mackenzie Allessie of Mount Joy Donegal (Pa.) into some rarefied air. With 43 goals on the season entering Thursday’s action, she currently sits outside the top three freshman goal-scoring performances of all time:

Freshman Gls
Austyn Cuneo, Voorhees Eastern (N.J.) 69
Meredith Sholder, Emmaus (Pa.) 47
Lexi Smith, Florence (N.J.) Memorial 44

What you see below reflects games through the end of play on Wednesday, which means that it is entirely possible you might see something different in the column to the right, since Daily Statwatch is updated in real time. I encourage coaches, athletic directors, and student managers to register for and use the MaxPreps.com platform, and we encourage you to get your fellow teams as well as perhaps your conference, confederation, or your state governing body to enter field hockey information there, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.

Here’s what we’ve compiled thus far, thanks to, amongst others, MaxPreps.com, Advance Media, The Harrisburg Patriot-News, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, MassLive.com, The Washington Post, The Reading Eagle, Newsday, and The Ann Arbor News:
