Nov. 1, 2015 — Bel Air John Carroll (Md.) 1, Lutherville Maryvale Prep (Md.) 0

POSTGAME We’ll be back in a few minutes with the “A” final

POSTGAME One incident typified the game; a clash of sticks with about three minutes to go drew a whistle as the ball went high isn’t the air. Carroll’s Carly Lyon, as cool as you like, caught the popup, set it down, and played it in one motion, setting off a diagonal attack that almost led to a goal. No jitters, no visible anxiety

POSTGAME In the final analysis, there was too much execution on the part of John Carroll. Maryvale sprung from its defensive cocoon in the second but could not manage an equalizer

FULL TIME At the final horn, John Carroll beats Maryvale 1-0

58:50 Diagonal into the circle misses Siena Howe for Maryvale; was that the last chance?

53:44 Timeout, John Carroll

51:30 JC PC Haggerty’s shot tipped wide!

48:45 JC PC Defensed by Baldwin, who has been an absolute pest

48:12 Timeout, Maryvale

48:00 JC PC Ball finds Edwards on the left pipe but the ball misses the cage! That was a gilt-edged change to end it

47:00 Maryvale is turning up the wick here; can they equalize?

46:00 MP PC Stevers puts the ball off Gromacki’s pads

43:00 MP PC Elaina Stevers chops the ball off the flyer and over the end line

39:39 Maryvale GREEN CARD; Ally Furnari is off for a push

33:00 JC PC Effort goes wide of the cage

30:00 The second half is under way

HALFTIME Carroll has dominated possession and shots thus far, and deservedly has the lone goal this far. Maryvale has tried to let its defense dictate the game, but Carroll has scored, meaning that the Lions are now going to have to chase the game

HALFTIME The horn sounds with John Carroll leading 1-0

29:59 And being a long hit from the 25, the half ends as the teams take an extraordinary amount of time lining up; that’s why I don’t like this rule tweak

29:30 And just like that, they force a clearance from JC goalie Emma Gromacki; long hit to Maryvale

28:00 Maryvale keeps absorbing pressure and keeping five behind the ball; Lions need to manufacture some chances

19:00 JC GOAL Sammi Edwards gets a bounding cross from Ashlee Kothenbeutal and catches Eliza Aumiller back in her cage; Carroll leads 1-0

17:45 JC PC Haggerty pounds it wide!

17:15 JC PC Play bogs

16:30 JC PC Baldwin breaks it up; was it with a foot?

15:09 Lions have not had much of the ball in the attacking third; what are they going to change to tilt this into their favor?

15:09 Timeout, Maryvale

13:00 JC PC Pass play broken up by Cara Baldwin

2:45 JC PC Charlotte Haggerty’s bounding ball is just missed at the left post by Katie Sullivan

0:00 The game is on

PREGAME Maryvale is in the all black with red numbers, Carroll in the white tops with black kilts

PREGAME The teams are warming up under partly sunny skies, temperatures around 59 degrees

PREGAME For Maryvale, which is led by sophomore Ally Furnari, the imperative is to show their improvement over the season; the Lions had lost 11-0 in a scrimmage to Class “A” Spalding two months ago

PREGAME For John Carroll, led by senior Carly Lyon and juniors Charlotte Haggerty and Rmily Stancliff, the task is to close out the season; the Patriots had almost been derailed in the semifinals

PREGAME Carroll is 14-1 on the season, Maryvale is 12-4. The teams met on Sept. 25 with Carroll winning 3-2

PREGAME Hello and welcome to Mustang Stadium on the campus of Stevenson University for the championship final of IAAM Class B between Brooklandville Maryvale Prep (Md.) and Bel Air John Carroll (Md.)
