Nov. 1, 2015 — Severn Archbishop Spalding (Md.) 3, Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.) 1

POSTGAME That’s all for now; good night, good hockey

POSTGAME The game could very well stamp the Cavaliers as having the best team in the state of Maryland

POSTGAME Spalding deserved the result, but could have had several more goals but for tenacious McDonogh defense, goalkeeping, and umpire judgments

POSTGAME Credit to McDonogh for not quitting when they were down two at the interval; they worked hard for a proximity goal and were stunned at the Cavaliers’ instant response

FULL TIME And the horn sounds with Spaulding winning 3-1

57:20 Spalding YELLOW; Edmondson off for five for the push

52:50 AS GOAL Margot Lawn is sprung into an open space by Shanahan’s looping aerial off the next hitback, and the freshman dives over two people for an absolute golazo! Spalding leads 3-1

51:40 McD PC and GOAL With the extra space, McDonogh gets three on the doorstep and Blair Pearre scores to bring the lead to 2-1

52:00 McD PC False start on Spalding; will re-rack with Spalding down a player on corner defense

50:44 McDonogh YELLOW; Katelyn Whittle is off for five

50:00 McD PC Allie Weiner with a raised ball

48:00 AS PC Shanahan with a dragflick that goes off the body of a McDonogh poster into the cage! It should count, but the effort is whistled down for danger

46:00 AS PC Margot Lawn with a backhander off a McDonogh foot into the goal cage, but it was judged to be at a dangerous height

43:20 McD PC Brindi Griffin’s shot is defensed

43:00 McD PC False start on McDonogh, and that attacker goes back over the 50 on the re-rack

40:45 AS PC Shanahan nubs it wide right

39:30 AS PC Shanahan backhand is gloved by Hyatt! What a game she is having!

36:45 AS PC Hyatt denies Greenwalt’s angled shot

35:30 AS PC Hyatt with a sprawling save!

35:15 AS PC False start on McDonogh; only three outfielders on the re-rack

33:00 McD PC Emma Schettig’s shot is saved

30:00 The second half is under way

HALFTIME McDonogh had a play in the first half when a wayward through ball scampered through the Spalding defense, and a right-winger wearing the number 23 appeared out of nowhere to thrust her stick at the ball to get it to a teammate. Yep, that was freshman Katelyn Whittle, younger sister of McDonogh lacrosse legend Megan Whittle, making a play that nobody had the right to even attempt

HALFTIME Shanahan, who is headed for Virginia, is masterful with her touches and her use of space. She also has a lot of pace on her shots. With a bit more luck, the score could have been doubled

HALFTIME The horn sounds with Spalding leading 2-0

25:30 AS PC Shanahan’s sizzler finds the tire outside the goal frame

25:00 AS PC Greenwalt’s shot is saved by Nadia Hyatt, but the rebound is judged dangerous; will re-rack

23:00 Spalding keeps attacking, and a through pass to Lawn is almost turned into the goal, but Parker Wolf with a heroic tackle!

19:35 Spalding YELLOW; Shuey is off for five minutes for the barge. Umpires are handing out cards like speeding ticket at the Indy 500

19:08 Timeout, McDonogh

19:00 AS GOAL Margot Lawn with a magnificent goal that stakes Spalding to a 2-0 lead!

16:50 We have offsetting GREEN CARDS; Sarah Shuey for Spalding; Blair Pearre for McDonogh

16:15 Spalding GREEN CARD: Logan Edmonson goes to the sin bin for the next two

15:30 AS PC Option-right to Kyler Greenwalt is saved!

14:00 McD PC Insert is mistrapped

6:35 AS PC and GOAL And, just like that, Erin Shanahan knocks in the 1-Up, taking advantage of the extra space; Cavaliers lead 1-0

6:20 AS PC False start on McDonogh; the Eagles only have three to defend this re-rack
