Dec. 24, 2015 — The view from another place

I’m typing this blog entry from the very spot where my father would sit in front of the TV most mornings in the last year of his life.

It’s Christmas Eve, and the traditions that our parents had, such as setting up the tree the day before Christmas and keeping it up until January 6, are pretty much faded memories.

New traditions, such as my sister-in-law’s baked French toast, have come into being. There’s the late-evening service at the Cathedral, as well as holiday music floating through speakers in almost every part of the lower level of the house.

If nothing else, there’s going to be something unique about Christmas this year. Because of an unusual air mass, the temperature tomorrow is going to be in the lower 70s. A picnic on the deck is being planned.

Global climate change, anyone?

Merry Christmas.
