Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

Jan. 6, 2016 — Bearing fruit at Strawberry Mansion

The historic Strawberry Mansion sits at a bend in the Schuylkill River just north of the Philadelphia Zoo. Nearby, a neighborhood and a school bear the same name.

For many of the last four decades, Strawberry Mansion High School has been a place that has seen a lack of hope and plenty of despair. Little city money comes into the school district, which partially privatized a few years ago because of the lack of state and federal funding.

Heck, for most of the last 60 years, the school didn’t even have a football team. That was, until a couple of years ago.

Now, it’s field hockey’s turn. Thanks to the efforts of Jazmine Smith and the Eyekonz Field Hockey Club, it’s likely that Strawberry Mansion is going to take to the field this fall.
