Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

Feb. 19, 2016 — All to play for in Florida

We’re only a few days into the 2016 scholastic girls lacrosse season, and there’s already been an enormous result.

For it was one week ago when 10-time defending state champion Vero Beach (Fla.) was defeated by Orlando Bishop Moore (Fla.) by a score of 14-6.

It was the Indians’ first loss to a state opponent in their last 145 matches.

“My girls had the utmost confidence in themselves and so did I,” first-year Bishop Moore head coach Kelly Blystone tells The Orlando Sentinel. “I knew the heart, the mental toughness and the talent of these girls.”

Moore has just two seniors on the roster this year, but one is Sarah Larkin, who is headed to USC next year. She had five goals in the win over Vero Beach.

The Hornets have a game this afternoon against a fancied Ponte Vedra (Fla.) side which has averaged 18 goals a match this season.

Should be an interesting game to witness if you’re in the area.
