Catie May, the shifty junior attacker from Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.), has scored a number of timely goals this season to maintain her side’s win streak, which reached 151 games over the weekend.
Today, however, might have been her finest hour. Her fourth goal came 1:01 into overtime to give the Eagles, the seven-time defending IAAM Class A champion, to a 12-11 win over Sykesville Century (Md.), the defending MPSSAA Class 3A-2A champions.
Century had taken an 11-7 lead in the 41st minute, but consecutive goals by Brindi Griffin (42nd and 45th), Savannah Buchanan (47th), and May (47th) leveled the match.
Kylie Davis led all scorers with five goals for a Knights team that had taken a 4-0 lead by the eight-minute mark of the first half.
McDonogh fought back to within 6-4 before the interval, but could only trade goals until their late surge.
The game ends the regular season schedule for McDonogh, which now focuses on the IAAM Tournament, which will be played over the next two weeks and conclude with a championship tripleheader May 14th at Severn Archbishop Spalding (Md.).
