Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

May 12, 2016 — From a frying pan

The NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse tournament will have eight campus sites for games to be played this weekend. Third-seeded Syracuse, along with Stony Brook and Boston College, are in the same portion of their bracket.

But the Orange are not the host team. Because of a requirement regarding available hotel rooms for traveling teams, umpires, and NCAA staff, the entire portion of this bracket is being moved to the soccer-specific stadium near the Boston College campus.

I read a couple of published stories about the hotel situation, given the usual surfeit of hotel rooms in central New York the rest of the year. Apparently, it’s not only Syracuse University that is hosting a graduation ceremony this coming weekend, but also Colgate University and Cazenovia College.

The thing is, the ceremony is being moved to an area where, this weekend, commencement ceremonies are being held at:

Babson
Boston Conservatory
Boston University
Emmanuel College
Fisher College
Franklin Institute of Technology
Lasell College
New England College of Optometry

Given the cluster of colleges and universities in eastern Massachusetts, and especially given the size of Boston University, I’m surprised that it was easier to find hotel accommodations in the greater Boston area than it was in Syracuse.
