Meredith Sholder, the senior attacker for the Emmaus (Pa.) field hockey team, had a pretty good weekend, to say the least.
She had a pair of goals in a Friday night win over East Stroudsburg (Pa.) North, then delivered a six-goal, two assist performance in a win over Hazelton (Pa.) yesterday.
What that did was propel her into the Top 4 for goal-scoring in the history of American scholastic field hockey. She passed Sharon Landau, a teammate of her mother’s at Harvard University in the 1980s.
But her two assists against Hazelton also put her into a very selective club. With 179 goals and 101 assists, Meredith Sholder becomes only the fourth known member of the 100-goal, 100-assist club:
|200-201||Haley Schleicher||Virginia Beach First Colonial||VA||2015|
Of course, as we’ve often said, there could be others in the history of high school field hockey who could be in this group, but for poor recordkeeping in the early days of the game as well as for areas of the country that didn’t recognize assists on penalty corners.
It’s still an occasion to be celebrated, however. A hearty “Well-played!” from this space.
