Oct. 18, 2016 — Top 10 for the week of Oct. 16

This week, there are a couple of interesting games on tap, starting with yesterday’s rescheduled match between Norfolk (Va.) Academy and Virginia Beach First Colonial (Va.). There’s also going to be a great match this Saturday as Ocean City (N.J.) travels to meet Pennsauken Bishop Eustace (N.J.).

But those two are regular-season matchups. The other one of interest is not a sure thing, because it will take a couple of wins in order for the match to take place. If both Mount Joy Donegal (Pa.) and Millersville Penn Manor (Pa.) are able to win their Lancaster-Lebanon League semifinal matches tonight, these two sides will meet on Thursday evening at Lancaster Conestoga Valley (Pa.) in an absolutely titanic matchup. And, like the Eastern-Episcopal Academy game two years ago, it may not only be the single key game to the entire season, but it may offer a glimpse into the future of the U.S. national team. Yep, there is that kind of starpower on offer. But neither of this evening’s games — Donegal against Manheim (Pa.) Township and Penn Manor against Lititz Warwick (Pa.) — is a “gimme.”

Our No. 11 Team of the Week is the University of Connecticut. The Huskies are the last undefeated team in NCAA Division I, but will have an interesting road to Selection Sunday. They play all but one of their last six games (assuming they aren’t knocked out of the Big East final) on the road.
