Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

Nov. 4, 2016 — Friday Statwatch for games played through Nov. 2

With only a few weeks to go in the U.S. scholastic season, we’re beginning to see a number of records being set and exceeded when it comes to both individual and team marks.

Wednesday, with an 11-0 win over La Jolla (Calif.), the Conquistadors of San Diego Serra (Calif.) pushed their team goal-scoring tally to 202. They are only the fourth high school ever to score more than 200 goals in a season; the other three are Voorhees Eastern (N.J.), Emmaus (Pa.), and Virginia Beach First Colonial (Va.). Leading the way for Serra is the nation’s leading goal-scorer, Megan Rodgers. Her individual total is 69, which puts her in a five-way tie for fifth all-time.

Now, let’s get a little perspective. When Kelsey Mitchell of Voorhees Eastern (N.J.) scored her 69th and final goal of her senior season on Nov. 22, 2009, she was tied for second alongside former Olympian Michelle Vizzuso, and behind the legendary Tracey Fuchs.  Since that game, the 69-goal mark has been matched or exceeded six more times.

We’re pretty sure most of these are right, but there are bound to be gaps or a number being off here or there. If you see something that needs to be rectified, please free to send us an email to us at TopOfTheCircle.com. Just keep in mind the fact that Statwatch is meant to reflect play up to the close of Wednesday. Give us a name or a bit of documentation (a website will do) so that we can make the adjustment. While Statwatch is meant to be authoritative, it’s not perfect, so it can be added to when necessary.

Thanks for reading, and we’ll be back next week.
