Dec. 11, 2016 — Meanwhile, over the border …

The U.S. senior women’s national team is only one cut away from announcing its 2017 FIL World Cup roster.

So are a number of teams around the world, including one which you should really keep your eye on. That team is Canada.

Team Canada currently holds the world title in the U-19 age classification, and a couple of that team’s stars — Danita Stroup and Selena Lasota — are on the 25-player expanded roster.

Canada also has Lydia Sutton and Avery Hogarth, a pair of major players on a team you should get to know: Southern California, which could contend for the 2017 NCAA championship.

But I think the player to watch for the Maple Leafs is center Dana Dobbie, the former Maryland product.

And I mean, she is a player to watch carefully. Over the last six months, she has made a number of absolute highlight-reel plays — either on draws or in the attack end — that have, regrettably gone unnoticed by the internet. If you are able to attach your notebook or desktop computer to a large-enough monitor, watch some of these highlights. Or some of the subtle plays she made during fall ball.
