Apr. 7, 2017 — Friday Statwatch for games played through April 5

Hi, everyone.

This week marks the beginning of our second season of Friday Statwatch, our look at the numbers that mark the time and define the achievements of lacrosse players around the United States.

Of course, the one statistic that everyone has their eyes on is the current win streak of Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.), which was at 164 at the end of play on Wednesday. It’s the longest known win streak in the history of high-school girls’ lacrosse, dating back to 1926.

The current streak is so far out there that nobody else in the U.S. is even close. Upper Arlington (Ohio), which finished last year with a 40-game win streak, has already lost twice. I get the feeling that it will take a lot of effort to not only try to topple McDonogh this year, but for all future girls’ lacrosse teams to match that kind of effort for an eight- or nine-year span.

What you see below is a list of statistics culled from, NJ Advance Media, The Harrisburg Patriot-News, The Providence Journal, The Albany Times-Union, Long Island Newsday, The Worcester Telegram, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch,, the Denver Post, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, MSG Varsity, the Ann-Arbor News,, and The Washington Post. And, of course, since many of the Southern and Western schools are in mid-season already, it will take a while for the East to catch up. This picture will round into form in a couple of months.
