Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

May 11, 2017 — A youth lacrosse national event, but where are the girls?

An announcement came today that eight handpicked boys’ lacrosse teams — including the superprep teams from Bradenton IMG Academy (Fla.) and Vaughn Hill Academy (Ont.) — would be playing a televised single-elimination tournament in the nation’s capital around the time the NCAA tournaments for both men and women are to wrap up.

There’s only one problem, however. Actually, more than one.

Though there are some top teams in this field, there isn’t a single public school. Nor are there any participants from the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association, perhaps the nation’s toughest league. In other words, no Gilman, no Boys’ Latin, no McDonogh.

And speaking of McDonogh — this is an all-boys’ affair. No girls allowed.

Memo to the organizers: you might have wanted to figure out this gender thing before you started, no?
