July 2, 2017 — North, from South

Yesterday, they played the 12th Under Armour All-American girls’ lacrosse all-star game, and for the first time, the game was broadcast over the air for those of you who are fortunate to receive the ESPNU Network.

The game featured what you might have expected: players from the finest teams in the country, some of whom have figured into assaults on the all-time goal and assist lists.

So, it should be no surprise that Charlotte North, a senior from Dallas (Tex.) Episcopal, earned the game’s MVP honor.

North, who willed Episcopal to the Southern Prep Conference title a week after losing the North District championship a week earlier by seven goals, scored the game-winner for the South All-Americans in a 16-15 overtime win over a North team that boasted the likes of Taylor Pinzone of Waltham (Mass.), who fell just short of the career records for goals scored and combined goals and assists when her scholastic team didn’t make the state tournament.

The South, as it happens, also had the likes of Samantha Swart of Radnor Archbishop Carroll (Pa.), Catie May and Andie Andalve of Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.), and Zoe Belodeau of Alexandria St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (Va.).

If you have a chance to rewatch the game through your cable system, do so. It was pretty entertaining.
