Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

July 3, 2017 — Region of the Year

There were areas of the United States which had fine teams. Some had fine players. Other had teams and players who excelled while they were expected to do so. But other areas of the country had players and coaches who pushed the envelope for their expectations and those around them.

When it comes to the state of Texas, the state has produced occasional good teams and players who have made contributions for Top 10 teams.

This year, however, Texas has become a destination for coaches to find untapped reserves of lacrosse talent. The game has been growing in the state’s public schools, but in the Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League, the teams from the Southern Prep Conference have held the whip hand in both Division I and Division II play.

The winner of Division I was Dallas (Tex.) Episcopal, with the runner-up being Dallas Hockaday School (Tex.). The Division II winner was Dallas Greenhills (Tex.).

And with Saturday’s performance by Episcopal senior Charlotte North, this only confirms that the Region of the Year for 2017 is the city of Dallas.
