Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

Aug. 9, 2017 — An all-out war?

The last few days have seen a flurry of press releases from the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL), giving out details here and there about the league’s mission and front office, as well as a growing list of superstar players who originally played with a competitor league, United Women’s Lacrosse (UWLX).

If that didn’t out enough pressure on UWLX, today’s WPLL unveiling just might.

The WPLL is scheduled to have five teams in 2018. This includes teams in all four markets in which UWLX currently has teams (Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore), but a team called the Upstate Pride, located in the general region where UWLX just hosted its second championship game.

I invite you to reread this ESPNW story, especially in light of the cherrypicking of talent and markets by the WPLL.
