Oct. 3, 2017 — Top 10 for the week of Oct. 1

Despite a number of challenges last weekend, our Top 10 holds station for this week, again. But that all could change by the end of the week because of the Hudson Valley showdown between Shrub Oak Lakeland (N.Y.) and Mamaroneck (N.Y.).

There will also be the biennial visit of Kingston Wyoming Seminary (Pa.) and Louisville Sacred Heart (Ky.) to Voorhees Eastern (N.J.) as well as Summit Oak Knoll (N.J.) traveling to West Long Branch Shore Regional (N.J.).

But what could really shake up the ratings is the Ring of Honor Tournament in Virginia Beach, and visiting Louisville Assumption (Ky.) will be playing four games in two days against the best teams at the beach, including defending state champions such as Virginia Beach Frank W. Cox (Va.) and Norfolk (Va.) Academy.

For our honorary No. 11 team of the week, let’s give a call to La Salle University in Philadelphia. What head coach Michelle Marks Salmi has done to get her team to a mark of 7-4 this season is remarkable. Without using the foreign recruitment model and taking players from a lot of well-coached schools from within 200 miles of the city, she has the Explorers in the hunt for the Atlantic 10’s AQ berth.

1. Mount Joy Donegal (Pa.) 14-0

Indians are finishing a six-day stretch into which they shoehorned six games, including the Falcon Classic last weekend; Mackenzie Allessie is on the verge of 200 goals and 100 assists for her career

2. North Caldwell West Essex (N.J.) 10-0

Knights had just one game last week; Ellie Decker (22 goals, 13 assists) and Julia Russo (17-13) have been the leaders thus far

3. Mamaroneck (N.Y.) 8-0

Tigers freshman goalie Sam Maresca will be a prime figure this Saturday at Shrub Oak Lakeland (N.Y.)

4. San Diego Serra (Calif.) 15-0

Managed to get past Escondido San Pasqual (Calif.) over the weekend, and has a good Poway (Calif.) team today

5. Shrub Oak Lakeland (N.Y.) 10-0

Faces Brewster (N.Y.) tomorrow before the showdown against Mamaroneck (N.Y.) on Saturday

6. Emmaus (Pa.) 13-0

Given the overall excellence of the Emmaus program, it’s unbelievable that the current team is extending a program-record winning streak to 68 matches. Then again, this team is made of sterner stuff

7. Millersville Penn Manor (Pa.) 14-0

With 10 clean sheets in 14 games, this is the likely team to try to wrest Lancaster-Lebanon Tournament honors from Donegal

8T. Voorhees Eastern (N.J.) 9-0-1

Vikings to host Louisville Sacred Heart (Ky.) and Kingston Wyoming Seminary (Pa.) this weekend in their annual triangular meeting

8T. Summit Oak Knoll (N.J.) 9-0-1

Royals beat Ocean City (N.J.) 5-0 last weekend and have West Long Branch Shore Regional (N.J.) this Saturday

10. Norfolk (Va.) Academy (Va.) 10-0

The Bulldogs will take on Fredericksburg James Monroe (Va.) Friday and Louisville Assumption (Ky.) Saturday in the Ring of Honor Tournament in Virginia Beach

11.  La Salle University 6-4

Mackenzie Karcher (five goals) leads the Explorer attack; team has three tough A-10 games to close out their conference slate in the next two weeks: St. Joseph’s, Richmond, and Virginia Commonwealth

Who’s out: None.

And bear in mind: Denver Colorado Academy (Colo.) 7-1-2, Monument Palmer Ridge (Colo.) 7-1-1, Glastonbury (Conn.) 7-0, Delmar (Del.) 7-0, Christian Academy of Louisville (Ky.) 14-4-2, Louisville Sacred Heart (Ky.) 14-5, Louisville Assumption (Ky.) 14-2,  Louisville Mercy (Ky.) 12-5-1, Acton-Boxborough (Mass.) 7-0, West Lawn Wilson (Pa.) 13-0, Oley (Pa.) Valley 12-1, Plymouth Wyoming Valley West (Pa.) 12-1, Villanova Academy of Notre Dame de Namur (Pa.) 7-0-2, Chantilly Westfield (Va.) 12-0
