Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

Oct. 4, 2017 — A (short) life in hockey

It’s been well-known, over the last 20 years, that newspapers are going the way of the buggy whip and the eight-track tape.

Good people have been let go from your local hometown paper and even from nationally-known publications.

The craft has suffered.

But every once in a while, you come across something truly astonishing. The Baltimore Sun published an obituary for 23-year-old Kathryn Johnson, who played her scholastic field hockey at Baltimore Roland Park (Md.), then matriculated to Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.

This is more than your usual obituary. It’s a life story about someone who impacted the lives of others and had the potential to impact many more except for a seizure which cost her life.

It’s a good read.
