Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

Oct. 6, 2017 — Friday Statwatch for games played through Oct. 4

Hi, all, and welcome back to Statwatch, our trip through the nationwide world of scholastic field hockey, where we try to make sense of it all through the study of the numbers that transcend time and eras.

Statwatch is compiled through the end of play the previous Wednesday, but the column just to the right, with the occasional orange entries rising incrementally, are the statistics as we understand them up to the minute. That’s why you may have been confused as Mackenzie Allessie had an enormous week scoring last weekend, making the Statwatch numbers seem very tame in comparison.

This week, let’s give a call to the young woman leading the nation in assists, Taryn Tkachuk. A freshman from St. Louis Villa Duchesne (Mo.), she is the daughter of former NHL star and U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Keith Tkachuk.

The odd thing is that Tkachuk started out the season emphasizing her passing, earning 15 of her 28 assists by the time the Saints finished up their participation in the Gateway Invitational. More recently, the forward has been gobbling up the goals; she has scored 10 this week in four consecutive games.

Below is our compilation of field hockey statistics from available sources. This includes the easy-to-use tool, and I encourage readers to contact their coaches, athletic directors, and student managers so that they may register for and use the platform, and we encourage you to get your fellow teams as well as perhaps your conference, league, or your state governing body to enter field hockey information there, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.

So, here’s our imperfect list, thanks to, amongst others, MaxPreps, Advance Media,,, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,, and the Washington Post:
