Nov. 3, 2017 — Friday Statwatch for games played through Nov. 1

Hello, and welcome to Friday Statwatch, our look through the wide, wide world of field hockey numbers in order to try to make sense of it all.

We didn’t want to go to long without recognizing the recent achievement of Jean Lipski, the veteran coach of Lehman Lake-Lehman (Pa.), who, on Oct. 25th, earned her 500th career victory with a 1-0 win over Wilkes-Barre Holy Redeemer (Pa.) in a PIAA District 2 Class A “tipping-point” match.

The tipping point: while Lipski was able to continue on with her team, losing in the 2-A final to Kingston Wyoming Seminary (Pa.) with both teams making it to the state tournament, Holy Redeemer will be reflecting on the chances it may have missed for the next nine months.

As far as we can tell, Lipski is the 34th member of the 500-win club, and she now gets to play against the loser of tomorrow’s District 3-A title game (either Newport or Oley Valley) this coming Tuesday.

Following this paragraph are this week’s field hockey statistics from available sources. This includes, amongst others, amongst others, Advance Media, PennLive.com, LancSports.com, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, PhilaFieldHockey.com, and the Washington Post. It also includes data from the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com reporting tool, and I encourage readers to contact their coaches, athletic directors, and student managers so that they may register for and use the MaxPreps.com platform, and we encourage you to get your fellow teams as well as perhaps your conference, league, or your state governing body to enter field hockey information there, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.

Thanks for dropping in for a spell, and hopefully the Internet will have us back next week.
