Jan. 5, 2018 — A new, albeit old, source

It’s been written that the electric blanket has been in use for some 105 years, starting as a medical application to help ease the effects of breathing disorders such as pneumonia and emphysema.

Yesterday’s purchase was all about comfort, however.  My living quarters, while comfortable, do not do so well when the temperature outside is the kind which freezes one’s breath on the inside of the windshield, or when pedestrians are forced to sometimes alter their course to shield themselves behind trees or lamp posts to avoid the cutting winds.

The acquisition was borne of serendipity: an electronic coupon plus the happenstance of finding the blanket during the cold spell that we’ve been having recently.

Assembling the bed sheets to accommodate the blanket brought up a problem: does a person lie on an electric blanket, or under one? After all, heat rises, and you’d think the heat would accumulate quicker underneath the comforter if the electric blanket was the lowest sheet on the bed.

Ah, well. Experimentation!

And, so to bed.
