May 8, 2018 — Top 10 for the week of May 6

This week, we know at least three of the current Top 10 will see their seasons end because it’s Final Four time in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland and in the Florida High School Athletic Association. One of them is Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.), which has been at No. 1 all season. The Eagles will look to run the table (again) with the IAAM Flight “A” final on Friday at U.S. Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md.

Our honorary No. 11 Team of the Week is the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, which made the NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse tournament out of the Skyline Conference. The team will be playing against the Avenging Angels of Meredith College this weekend in the bracket pod hosted by Salisbury.

1. Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.) 20-0

Eagles face Brooklandville St. Paul’s School for Girls (Md.) tomorrow in IAAM semifinals; current winning streak now at 197

2. Pittsford (N.Y.) 12-0

Beat Fayetteville-Manlius (N.Y.) 10-7 last week; a test next Monday awaits with Canandaigua (N.Y.) Academy

3. Glenelg (Md.) 12-2

Top seed in the MPSSAA Class 2A South regional; bracket is loaded with Marriotts Ridge, Century, and Hereford lying in wait

4. Novato (Calif.) 20-1

Hornets won MCAL title with a 22-1 win over Marin Catholic; Novato now takes on Walnut Creek Northgate (Calif.) in the sectionals

5. Alexandria Bishop Ireton (Va.) 17-3

Played Olney Good Counsel (Md.) in WCAC final yesterday; the VISAA tournament awaits for the Cardinals

6. Towson Notre Dame Prep (Md.) 14-3

Blazers had a couple of chances to beat McDonogh last week; this No. 6 ranking may prove to be a bit low given the competition they have had this season

7. Delray American Heritage (Fla.) 21-1

Stallions will take on Vero Beach (Fla.) in the FHSAA semifinal round on May 10

8. Manhasset (N.Y.) 12-1

9. Alexandria St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (Va.) 23-2
