June 23, 2018 — The road ends here

This afternoon at Boston University signals the end of the U.S. scholastic lacrosse season, with a tripleheader of boys’ games in the morning and a doubleheader of girls’ games in the afternoon.

Each of the two girls’ lacrosse games has its own storyline. In the Division 2 final, Norwell (Mass.) is looking for its third state championship in the last four years. Harvard Bromfield School (Mass.), which has had good teams in the Central bracket over the last five or six years, is in its first state final since 2014.

In the Division 1 final, Walpole (Mass.) is playing its second consecutive final, but last year, the Rebels were in the Division 2 final where they lost to Cohasset (Mass.). Walpole is also undefeated this season in 23 matches, and have started to find the kind of success on the lacrosse pitch that its legendary field hockey team has had in the past.

Walpole will be playing against Wellesley (Mass.), a team which has been building to this moment for the last four years under head coach Michelle Cook. Wellesley has not shied away from playing the best teams in the state during its regular season, including a three-game stretch when the Raiders lost to 2017 Division 2 champion Cohasset, 2017 Division 1 champion Needham (Mass.), and today’s opponent, Walpole.
