Sept. 21, 2018 — Friday Statwatch for games played through Sept. 19

Hi, everyone. Welcome back to another year of Statwatch, our weekly look into the numbers that define field hockey.

This week, the statistical occurrence we’re highlighing is the 600th career coaching win for Karen Doxey of Richmond (Va.) Collegiate. The 600th victory came over the weekend against Alexandria Episcopal (Va.).

As far as we can tell, she is the 17th member of the all-time 600-win club, although there are some coaches who may never get credit because of poor recordkeeping for girls’ sports through most of the 20th Century.

This week, we start compiling numbers from various sources around the Internet universe. These are all numbers as of the close of play on Wednesday, meaning that they are going to be somewhat different from the Daily Statwatch numbers to the right of this column, which we try to update in, more or less, real time.

Once again, this year, we’d like to plug the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com website. I encourage readers to contact their coaches, athletic directors, and student managers so that they may register for and use the MaxPreps.com platform, and we encourage you to get your fellow teams as well as perhaps your conference, league, or your state governing body to enter field hockey information there, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.

So, here’s what we have thus far, thanks to, amongst others, MaxPreps, Advance Media, PennLive.com, The LNP Media Group, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, PhilaFieldHockey.com, and the Washington Post:

Friends and neighbors, here’s where you come in. This first list is a draft. It is making an attempt at being comprehensive.

If you see something missing, feel to send us an email at TopOfTheCircle.com. Give us a name or a bit of documentation (a website will do) so that we can make the adjustment.

Thanks a lot for reading, and we’ll reconvene next week with more Statwatch.
