Nov. 9, 2018 — Friday Statwatch for games played through Nov. 7

We’re heading towards some history this coming weekend, as three field hockey teams are knocking on history’s door.

Saturday, Voorhees Eastern (N.J.) will be playing against Bridgewater-Raritan (N.J.) for the NJSIAA Group IV championship. Eastern will be going for its unprecedented 20th consecutive state title.

Two other teams are looking to extend their streaks from nine to 10 straight titles. In Saturday’s NYSPHSAA Class B semifinals, Shrub Oak Lakeland (N.Y.) will be taking on Afton (N.Y.) Central for a berth in the title match. The winner will take on either Pittsford Mendon (N.Y.) or Garden City (N.Y.), weather permitting. Snow is in the forecast this weekend.

Also, in Massachusetts, Watertown (Mass.) yesterday got by Lynnfield (Mass.) 2-1 in double overtime in the MIAA Division 2 North Tournament, and will take on Manchester Essex (Mass.) Regional in the sectional final, with two more games next week in search of a 10th straight state title.

The below lists are what we have thus far, thanks to, amongst others, MaxPreps, Advance Media, PennLive.com, The LNP Media Group, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, PhilaFieldHockey.com, and the Washington Post.

I encourage the use of the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com website to report statistics. It is easy for the average coach, athletic director, or student managers to register for  the MaxPreps.com platform, and we encourage you to get your fellow teams as well as perhaps your conference, league, or your state governing body to enter field hockey information there, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.

Given the number of stats I read about each week, this list isn’t perfect. This is where you come in. If you see something missing, feel free to send us an email at TopOfTheCircle.com. Give us a name or a bit of documentation (a website will do) so that we can make the adjustment.

Thanks a lot for dropping in, and we’ll see if we can get it right next week.
