May 1, 2019 — A showcase and a half

Yesterday, the final lineup of 34 scholastic field hockey teams were set for the mid-September clash of champions at the inaugural MAX Field Hockey National High School Invitational.

The field includes the likes of current powers Voorhees Eastern (N.J.), Summit Oak Knoll (N.J.), Hershey (Pa.), Louisville Sacred Heart (Ky.), and Virginia Beach Frank W. Cox (Va.). There are also current champions such as Winnetka New Trier (Ill.), Towson Notre Dame Prep (Md.), Biddeford (Maine), and Newtown Square Episcopal Academy (Pa.)

It also will include a number of teams of historical excellence such as Hummelstown Lower Dauphin (Pa.), Greenwich (Conn.) Academy, Garden City (N.Y.), North Caldwell West Essex (N.J.) and Shrub Oak Lakeland (N.Y.).

It also will have a number of schools which are known for other sports as well as field hockey, such as Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.), Blairstown Blair Academy (N.J.), and Fort Washington Germantown Academy (Pa.).

The field has public and private schools, and even Louisville DuPont Manual (Ky.), a magnet school.

The quality of this field has given this tournament a cachet that few others have had over the last 20 or so years.

It should be an excellent event.
