May 10, 2019 — Friday Statwatch for games played through May 8

As the girls’ lacrosse season has evolved this year, you can find some trends behind the numbers. This year, there is a marked presence of a number of well-trained ninth-graders.

Such is the case of Francesca Frieri out of Lockport (Ill.), who is in third place nationally in goal-scoring with 119. You can also point up Bella Mims, who has assisted 71 times for Clermont East Ridge (Fla.) in her maiden season. It will be interesting to see how these players mature over the next three-plus years.

But what is also happening is that some high-scoring players, when grouped together, vault their teams to amazing successes. Such is what’s happening with Versailles Woodford County (Ky.), whose junior leader Brittany Sherrod is already in the top five in single-season goal-scoring of all time. She has 154 this year, with only tomorrow’s state championship final yet to play. Sherrod’s not just a one-woman symphony; senior teammate Abbey Peterson has 116 goals on the season.

Below is combination of girls’ scholastic lacrosse statistics from available sources, including, NJ Advance Media, The Harrisburg Patriot-News, The Providence Journal, The Albany Times-Union, Long Island Newsday, The Worcester Telegram, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch,, the Denver Post, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, MSG Varsity, the Ann-Arbor News, and The Washington Post.

I encourage you to convince your team, your school, league, or state governing body to adopt the easy-to-use platform, and we encourage you to get your fellow teams to enter their information there as well as whichever is your local news site, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.
