Sept. 6, 2019 — An effect of Dorian

They were supposed to play field hockey today at the new DE Turf facility in Frederica, Del.

In the office was to be a three-team invitational including Edgewater South River (Md.), Towson Notre Dame Prep (Md.), and three-time DIAA state champion Delmar (Del.), in an early test of the Wildcats’ Top 10 credentials.

But wind and rain from Hurricane Dorian put the kibosh on today’s festivities.

Delmar is going to take on NDP tomorrow morning once the storm moves out to sea, and the Cats have rescheduled the South River game for Sept. 19th, one week after a regularly-schedule game against Kent Island (Md.).

Delmar, it seems, is regarding DE Turf as a second home this season, as the team wraps up the regular season at the new facility on October 24th against Wilmington Padua Academy (Del.). That one game could be extremely interesting, given the form that the Pandas have been in the last five years. Every year they seem to build towards a state championship, only to fall just short. In 2016, Padua ran the table until the state title game, when it fell to Wilmington Tower Hill (Del.).

But in that last regular-season game, they’re going against a Delmar side which has lost exactly once in the last three seasons and are on a 37-game winning streak.

Something’s gotta give.
