Oct. 14, 2022 — Friday Statwatch for games played through Oct. 12

Good morning, everyone, and welcome back to Statwatch, our turn through the world of American scholastic field hockey statistics, the numbers which define this sport.

The one stat we’d like to bring up this week is the fact that Delmar (Del.) is now by its lonesome in second place in all-time consecutive wins. Coming into play Wednesday, they had 107 victories. Only the Watertown (Mass.) team which built a 124-game win streak as part of its unbelievable 184-game unbeaten streak, is ahead of the Wildcats. Watertown’s unbeaten streak lasted from November 2008 until September 2017 — nearly nine years. Delmar’s win streak started in October 2016, and continues to this day.

I would estimate that, if the Wildcats keep winning and keep playing their usual schedule, they will tie Watertown’s all-time win record nine games into the 2023 season. And, that game will likely be late in the first week or early in the second week of October, in which case the opponent could very well be conference rival Lewis Cape Henlopen (Del.). But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

What you see in red below are statistics culled from, amongst other sources, MaxPreps, Berks Game Day, the KHSAA, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and Advance Media. We would like to get as many coaches and other field hockey people to register for the platform, and we encourage you to get your fellow teams as well as perhaps your conference, league, or your state governing body to enter field hockey information there, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.
