In less than two weeks, Cabrini University will cease to exist. It is one of a number of universities across America to have closed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this instance, Cabrini accepted a sale to nearby Villanova University.

One of the great figures on campus, however, found a safe haven about 10 miles south, in Aston. Jackie Neary, who has won more than 600 games coaching both field hockey and lacrosse, has been hired by Neumann University as the school’s new assistant athletic director and women’s lacrosse coach.

“Jackie Neary is a generational coaching talent,” Neumann president Chris Domes said in a news release. “Her legacy of sustained success is extraordinary, and her three-decade track record of helping young women reach their potential is unmatched. We welcome her to the Neumann family with open arms.”

Neary won’t be coaching field hockey; that job is being retained by former U.S. international Erik Enters, who will be entering his fourth season at the helm this fall.

It’s a great hire.
