Serving the scholastic field hockey and lacrosse community since 1998

Oct. 10, 2016 — The scorpions’ tail

This site has chronicled an explosion of scoring in scholastic field hockey the last decade. Of the 20 occurrences of a player scoring 60 or more goals in a season, 14 of them have occurred in 2006 or later. Four players have recorded more than 100 goals and 100 assists in a career. Two players have exceeded the 200-goal mark for a career, and a third is likely to cross that milepost tomorrow.

Goalies have felt the brunt of this, as well as rules changes that have put a lot of pressure on them. But one 5-foot-2 goalie has done her best against the offensive tide, playing for the smallest high school in the sprawling suburbs of Columbia, Md.

Playing the Oakland Mills Scorpions has not been the easiest for opponents thanks to record-breaking goalie Lizzie Yu.
