Social media posts have hinted that the U.S. field hockey teams will be getting new uniforms in time for the next Olympic qualifying cycle.
The unveiling is at 10 a.m. Eastern time, but a video teaser hints at what is, at first blush, a uniform of little change. The U.S. team logo is unchanged, with a shield featuring three stars and the profile of an eagle sheltering under its wing.
In addition, the gear appears to be made by Osaka, the company that has provided uniforms for the teams in recent times.
There is, however, one major wrinkle. In some of the video clips, you can see a sponsor logo peeking out from under crossed arms.
The bit of logo being shown looks remarkably like that of Bank of America, a company whose headquarters just happens to be in Charlotte, N.C., where the U.S. team is based.
It portends to be the first major kit sponsor for the U.S. since CitiBank’s agreement with the team — and also the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee — ended in 2016.
Bank of America, through a series of mergers in the last 30 years, has become the nation’s second-largest banking company. It’s headquarters are just three miles north of Queens University, which hosts the U.S. women’s national team.
