April 18, 2023 — Top 10 for the week of April 16

At the top of our rankings remains a good and resilient Darien (Conn.) team, one which got a great effort on both ends of the pitch against an excellent Brooklandville St. Paul’s (Md.) side, which vaults into our Top 10 despite two defeats. But the quality of that St. Paul’s side is such that it has the capability to win the league title this year.

Still, the competition in IAAM “A” is so stiff that it is possible that any of three or four teams are capable of winning the title this year. It all depends on what happens the next three or four weeks.

1. Darien (Conn.) 6-0
The Blue Wave rode Chloe Humphrey’s seven goals and a late defensive to beat Brooklandville St. Paul’s (Md.); the team takes on New Canaan (Conn.) a week from today
2. Glenelg (Md.) Country School 10-0
An enormous top-of-the-table match for the IAAM “A” lead occurs today as the Dragons take on Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.)
3. New Canaan (Conn.) 4-0
Rams bested Rye (N.Y.) last Saturday 17-7; they will take on Longmeadown (Mass.) this Saturday
4. Northport (N.Y.) 6-0
Tigers take on Bedford Red Land (N.Y.) this Saturday
5. Rosemont Agnes Irwin (Pa.) 7-0
The Owls take on Newtown Square Episcopal Academy (Pa.) this afternoon
6. Wantaugh (N.Y.) 7-0
Bested Mamaroneck (N.Y.) 14-7 last Saturday
7. Owings Mills McDonogh (Md.) 11-1
The Eagles’ game today against Glenelg (Md.) Country School today is the fulcrum on which this season will be balanced
8. Brooklandville St. Paul’s (Md.) 11-2
Gators were within a bounce of sending last weekend’s showdown with Darien (Conn.) to extra time
9. Radnor Archbishop Carroll (Pa.) 7-1
Big early win over Towson Notre Dame Prep (Md.) as well as last week’s win over Pottstown Owen J. Roberts (Pa.)
10. Eldersburg Liberty (Md.) 6-1
Liberty has a county match with Sykesville South Carroll (Md.) today

Who’s out: Washington Georgetown Visitation (D.C.) 13-4 loss to Radnor Archbishop Carroll (Pa.) and 12-11 loss to Philadelphia Penn Charter (Pa.); Charlottesville St. Anne’s-Belfield (Va.) 9-7 loss to Richmond (Va.) Collegiate
